Background Information

  • The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has announced a public consultation on the draft opinion of its Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) on the proposed EU-wide restriction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to follow the Committee’s meeting in March 2026.
  • The SEAC draft opinion on the PFAS restriction proposal will cover the evaluation of the socio-economic aspects, including the availability of alternative substances and technologies.
  • SEAC intends to agree its draft opinion at its meeting, which is provisionally scheduled for the first half of March 2026.
  • The consultation will begin shortly after the ECHA meeting and remain open for 60 days, during which stakeholders, e.g. COA, can provide feedback.

COA Technical Guidance Document “TG-08 Regulatory Issues Concerning Reefer F-Gases”

In response to the initial ECHA proposal in 2024, the COA’s Technical Guidance Document TG-08 provided an overview of the proposed regulations restricting the use of refrigerant F-Gases and the consequences for the reefer intermodal Industry.

COA TG-08 formed the basis of the COA submission to the ECHA public consultation.
