Driving Standardisation in Container Maintenance & Repair

The Container Owners Association (COA) is pleased to announce the release of the new COA CEDEX Syntax, developed and finalised by the COA CEDEX Working Group.

The COA CEDEX Syntax is now available on the dedicated public platform: https://coa.cedex-syntax.com/cedex-settings/login

For the first time, a comprehensive CEDEX code syntax for container damages and repairs has been defined across all major container types (excluding tank containers). This marks a significant milestone towards greater transparency, consistency, and efficiency in global container maintenance and repair.

What this means for industry stakeholders:

  • Repair depots & workshops: Clear and uniform coding to reduce errors and speed up processes.
  • Owners & operators: Enhanced comparability of data across regions and partners.
  • IT systems providers: A common syntax to streamline integrations and improve data exchange.
  • The entire supply chain: A foundation for cost savings, improved asset management, and stronger quality assurance.

The adoption of a common CEDEX Syntax will bring substantial benefits, including:

• Faster, more reliable communication between stakeholders
• Reduced misunderstandings in damage and repair reporting
• Improved digitalisation and automation opportunities
• Long-term cost efficiency and operational resilience

We encourage all stakeholders in the container industry to explore the new CEDEX Syntax and begin integrating it into their systems and workflows.
